Food at First Garden Winding Down

We have had a great season out at the FAF Garden and while our tomatoes haven’t done that well (along with everyone else in Iowa), our cucumbers, greens, potatoes, carrots, garlic, and berries have done well. We hope you will join us for our last month of official garden activities in September. We do plan on having a big celebration to put the garden to bed in October and when we do, we hope you will join. Please enjoy the pictures of Hannah with a bike full of veggies and Gabrielle laughing about the toad on her arm.

Hope to see you out there. The garden is at Trinity Christian Reformed Church on 3626 Ontario in West Ames. Workdays for the rest of the month will be Tuesdays from 5:30-7:30 and Saturday from 9-11. Last day is September 26th.

See you out there!

The Garden is Flourishing!

Had another great week out at the FAF Garden. We want to see you out there too (3626 Ontario). We harvests some new potatoes, lots of greens, nearly 25 lbs of onions and leeks. It is truly lovely out there. Check out the photos of our Swallowtail Butterfly pollinating the Echinacea. What a great day. We will be doing a lot of harvesting of crops the coming weeks and could use extra hands to harvest and to help spread compost.

Great Day in the Garden

Hey all,

What a beautiful warm day in the garden. We saw beautiful caterpillar but I am not sure what kind it is. Perhaps one of you knows! The bees were pollinating the Echinacea flowers, we harvested some new potatoes, lots of greens, cucumbers, Napa cabbage, and gorgeous onions. Oh and the berries are still going. We would love to see you out there to enjoy the bounty and to share the fruits of our labor. Next Saturday we plan on a big work day to dig potatoes and onions and get some replanting done. Would love to see you out there.
