Christmas Meal!

It’s that time of year again!  The community-wide Christmas Day meal is for EVERYONE – those who are struggling, those who have a lot to be thankful for, those who are lonely, those who have “more than enough” family…  everyone!!  If you’d like to volunteer to help prepare the meal, please check our sign-up form – as of now, we still have openings, but they’ll be gone FAST.

If you can’t make it to volunteer, but would still like to help, sign up to make a pumpkin or fruit pie! Click here for signup.

This week at the garden

Saturday October 1 was the last harvest day of the season. Hannah (pictured) and Carrie harvested potatoes, collard greens, broccoli raab, peppers, squash, cherry tomatoes, kale, chard, and microgreens.

Sunday October 2 noon-4 is the final workday of the season, followed by a celebration potluck. We’ll be getting the garden ready for 2017!

Garden Harvest

This week at the garden we harvested: microgreens, peppers, kale, cucumbers, broccoli raab, chard, squash, potatoes, collards, eggplants, basil and parsley. We distributed over 13 pounds of produce.

We are nearing the season, but we will continue to harvest over the next couple of weeks. We are working on digging our potatoes.

This week at the garden

Tonight at the Food at First Garden we accomplished a lot!

Thanks to our diligent weeders, Diana, Lorilyn, and Nicole.

Laura and Joe taught tonight’s gardeners how to manage and prune the raspberries. Elisa, Carrie, and Nicole then worked to clean up the raspberries and prepare for next season.

Thank you Diana for bringing your mower and mowing all our grassy paths, and to Helen for lending the electric trimmer that Hannah put to good use!

Nicole, Lorilyn, and Hannah worked to prepare beds and seed them with carrots and beets.

I’m so proud of how much we did together, and I can’t wait until it’s time to harvest our fall crops.
